Chapter 53

"What the heck am I supposed to wear?"

I throw my fifth pair of jeans onto the bed and sigh whilst looking in the mirror.

"I mean it's only a café. I'm sure if you turn up and jeans and a t-shirt they're not going to immediately rule you out." Cooper says trying to be helpful.

"But first impressions matter. And nothing looks good." I complain flicking through my clothes for the 100th time.

"Right move out the way let me fix this." Jenny says waltzing into the room, wearing her dressing gown and bunny slippers that I brought her for her birthday. She's rocking the look.

"Amateurs." She mutters under her breath as she tosses through the various clothes that are strewn all over the bed.

Cooper lets out a sigh of boredom and I shift my weight from foot to foot impatiently. We have to leave in fifteen minutes for my interview and I'm nowhere near ready.

Jenny sharply turns her head and looks at us.

"Well don't just stand there, start doing your hair or whatever else you need to do whilst I get you and outfit." She shakes her head as she turns back around.

I hastily walk into the bathroom and stand in front of the mirror. I just tie my hair into a low pony tail and bring two strands in front to frame my face. I also apply a bit of mascara hoping and praying it won't smudge.

When I walk back out, Jenny's stood in front of them bed, her hands placed triumphantly on her hips. She turns and smiles at me before stepping away.

Laid out on the bed is a black skirt, matched with black tights and a cream high neck sweater.

"You can probably pair it with these boots I have, I think we're the same-"

Jenny trails off as I wrap my arms tightly around her.

"Thank you." I whisper, already feeling some weight lifting off my chest.

"You'll smash it." Jenny whispers back before pulling away and nodding encouragingly at me.

"Right now that my work here is done, I'm off to tea with Chanel and Paul." She announces before waltzing out, still in her dressing gown and bunny slippers.

"Who the heck are Chanel and Paul?" Cooper asks looking slightly lost.

"Don't ask me, she's your mum." I remark back at him before heading back into the bathroom with my outfit.

Not even a minute later, I'm dressed and thankfully my mascara hasn't smudged. Things are looking good.

"Bea we really need to get going or we'll be late!" Cooper yells from outside.

I open the door and we head downstairs. On the way Jenny catches us and hands me a pair of ankle high boots to wear.

20 minutes later Cooper's parked outside the café and my leg is bouncing up and down uncontrollably with nerves.

"You'll be fine." Cooper reassures me for the thousandth time as he rests his hand on my knee in attempt to calm its shaking.

"What if they laugh at me? What if I walk in and there's been some kind of mistake? What if I need qualifications? What if I faint? What if I have a stroke? What if I'm sick on-"

I'm cut off as Cooper gently presses his lips to mine, effectively shutting me up and stopping my rambling. After a few seconds, he pulls away and smiles at me.

"I'll be right here waiting for you." He gives my thigh a quick squeeze before leaning over and opening my door for me.

"I'll see you shortly." I say before climbing out the car and walking towards the café my legs feeling like jelly.

As I step inside, the waitress from yesterday walks into me and I almost fall to the floor.

"I'm so super sorry!" She exclaims putting her hands on my shoulders and looking me up and down. "You're not hurt are you? Gosh I'm such a clutz sometimes."

"That makes two of us." I laugh back and smile at her flustered expression.

She looks up and a look of realisation spreads across her face.

"You're the girl from yesterday aren't you?"

I nod my head, smiling slightly.

"Gosh that's perfect. Follow me, Rachel's waiting for you."

She starts walking towards the back of the café and I hastily follow her until we reach the door I saw yesterday that says 'staff only' on it. The waitress (I really do need to ask what her name is) pushes the door open, into a kitchen area. We walk straight through to another door, pushing it open into a hallway.

On one side is a set of stairs leading to who knows where, probably some type of living quarters or break room or something like that. Although you never know, it could be the lair of some satanic cult group.

However we turn to a door on the left hand side of the hallway. The girl gestures to it.

"here we are. Good luck." She says smiling before turning around.

"Oh erm I don't mean to sound weird or anything but quickly..." I pause as she turns around. "What's your name?" I ask.

"Kitty." Kitty says smiling.

"Oh well um thank you kitty." I reply.

"Hopefully I'll see you soon, with good news." She says before turning and walking away.

I take a deep breath before knocking on the door three times. After the third time a voice calls out for me to come in.

I tentatively open the door into an office type room. There's a pot of tea in the middle of a desk as well as two cups and a jug of milk. There's also an iPad and a notebook which I think says recipes but I'm reading it upside down so I could be really wrong.

"Please take a seat." The lady behind the desk who I'm guessing is Rachel says, gesturing to the seat on the other side of the desk.

She looks like she could be in her late 50s early 60s with greyish hair pulled into a bun, but she could be younger with the way she holds herself and the way her eyes are still so full of life.

"So tell me about yourself." Rachel says once I've sat down.

"erm well there's not much to tell. I'm in my last year of school, I like reading and I'm pretty good at baking but not cooking."

Rachel lets out a small laugh and I feel some of my nerves fade away.

"and have you ever worked in a café or shop before?"

"No I haven't but my friends all say I'm a nice person and I'm sure I'd be more than capable." I assure her hopefully.

"And what about your parents? What do they do for work?"

"They're both dead."

"Oh. I'm sorry for your loss." Rachel quickly apologises, a look of sympathy taking over her face.

"You know this café used to belong to my mother? It's been passed down the family for generations. Unfortunately I've never married or had children so I'm not quite sure who I'll pass it down to once I'm gone." She lets out a heavy sigh. "Oh well hopefully it will be a good while before that happens." She says a smile once again taking over her face.

"It's a really lovely café." I admit smiling politely.

Rachel hums in response whilst opening up her iPad and seemingly scrolling through some documents on it.

"Okay so just one final question." She starts and I nod my head my heart feeling like it's about to burst out of my chest. "Why should we hire you?"

"Well I know I don't have much experience but I'm a quick learner and I try my best. And I can make a really good cup of coffee. And I'm a nice person who can work whatever hours you want me to because apart from school I don't have much else to do. And I promise I'd do my best." I say taking a deep breath.

"Perfect. When can you start?"

"Sorry what?" I do a double take, replaying what Rachel just said in my head and making sure I heard correctly.

"You're hired." She smiles at me.

"Oh erm. Next week?" I offer and she nods her head.

"Perfect. I'll email you over some things to sign just for café policy and so you understand equipment safety and all that as well as your schedule and salary but apart from that, I'll see you on Monday."

She stands up and walks over to the door opening it up for me.

"Thank you so so much." I say as I follow her and join her by the door.

She nods her head and smiles at me before I walk out and through the kitchen back into the main café area. Kitty immediately sees me and rushes over.

"How'd it go?"

"I got the job." I exclaim happily and Kitty squeals before bringing me into a hug.

"Ugh that's amazing!"

"I know right?"

"Do you have a phone?" Kitty suddenly asks as we pull out of the hug.

I nod and hand it to her. She takes it and quickly enters her number creating a contact for her. She hands me my phone back and smiles up at me.

"When you know what days you're working message me and I'll let you know how many shifts we have together."

I nod and smile before saying goodbye and heading back out to the car where Cooper is waiting, typing away on his phone. As soon as I open the car door his head whips up and he looks at me expectantly.

"I got the job!" I laugh as Cooper tackles me into a hug as I'm getting into the car.

After I start tapping him letting him know I can no longer breath with his entire weight pressing on me, he pulls away, his smile just as big as mine.

"I'm proud of you." He admits and I shake my head at him, but there's a smile plastered on my face.

"Come on then lets go home." I say whilst doing my seatbelt up. Safety first kids!

"Why are you so eager to get home?" Cooper asks, but he still starts the car up.

"Are you serious? My pjs and food are at home." I sigh and shake my head at him mocking him, "Why are you so eager to get home?"

He shakes his head at me but 30 minutes later I'm tucked in bed wearing my pyjamas, with a tub of ben and jerry's ice cream in my hand, whilst watching Netflix.

Cooper emerges from the bathroom and laughs when he sees me.

"Netflix and chill?" I ask offering out the tub of ice cream.

"DO you actually know what that means?" Cooper asks giving me a suspicious look.

"Yeah of course I do. It means watch Netflix and chill or whatever." I say stating what I thought was the obvious.

Cooper shakes his head. "Just don't ever say that to Leo or Zach."

I cock my head at him and make a mental note to ask Ella or Hattie what it means later on.

A/N: I'm back! For how long? Who knows. I apologise profusely for my elongated absence and lack of  chapters however I have good reasons. To start with I'll be honest, I was just so mentally drained and wasn't enjoying writing as much and I was scared to see what people were saying about the book why I don't know but yeah. And then I've recently been ill and for some reason I still am ill which is really fun but I managed to put this chapter together so yeah. Hope it's bearable.

Also just a little thing, for people that are complaining about the smut scenes, sorry if it's not up to your standards but it's my first time writing something like that so it's not going to be 5* worthy is it? And at least I'm writing some. Some books don't have any so it's that or nothing, don't be ungrateful. Anyway hopefully I'll have another chapter out fairly soon but who knows.

luv ya bye x
